    Lab
Students will learn how photosynthesis is used by a plant to make sugars by breaking the misconception that photosynthesis is about growing a plant. These sugars are then used to perform cellular respiration to make energy. The sugars are converted into larger molecules like cellulose to help build the structure of plant cells. Students should also recognize that plants grow by cell division.

    Lab
Students will learn act out polymerization by performing carbohydrate dehydration synthesis and carbohydrate hydrolysis using chemistry models. Students will also model breaking of one biomolecule to make a different biomolecule. Students will be able to model how polymers are made and how polymers are broken. Students will also be able to describe how the atoms in one macromolecule can be use use to make a different macromolecule.

Food Chain Lab - Owl Pellets
    Free Student Handout

    Lab
In this food chain lab, students dissect owl pellets to learn how the owl is part of a food chain. Since the owl regurgitates these compact pellets, owl pellets are undigested parts that the owl eats, which contain fur and bones of small rodents. Dry pellets will not smell and are acceptable for students to handle with gloves.
